Is a scrap brewing up on Mission Hill?
After a fire destroyed the School District's main building on Mission Hill, it's rebuilding plans includes reserving many floors in the new building to lease to the builder and, in this way, allow for it to explore it commercially. Consequently, the builder would not charge the school district for the building costs and the district could apply the insurance compensation for the fire to other projects. Local residents of Mission Hill strongly objected to the measure because it represented a threat to the residential character of the neighborhood. The moderator between the parts (planning commissioner Pearson), was skeptical of the success of the residents objections.
