Planning Commission supports Mission Hill office proposal
According to the author, this measure was not consensual. Supporters of the decision (including, parents, teachers, students and others) defended this was the only way to afford to rebuild their offices that had been destroyed by a fire two years prior. School district officials are quoted saying they need a project to generate $800,000 to $850,000 to help finance the reconstruction of the building. Opponents of the decision included Tunheim, chairwoman of the city Historical Preservation Commission, and Planning Commission Chairman Schiffrin. The latter is quoted saying the zoning is inconsistent with both the City's General Plan and good land-use practices.
