Captain John P. Davenport
Captain John P. Davenport, a sea captain from Tiverton, Rhode Island. He and his wife, Ellen, moved to California in 1852. In 1868, he built a 450 foot wharf in the cove at the mouth of Agua Puerca Creek, a short way up the coast from the present day community of Davenport. The area around the wharf became known as Davenport's Landing.
