Second Saturday Net March 2001
The stated goal of this zine is for African American families who want to get to know one another and learn something in the process. It is an information and resource guide that originated from an idea of the members of the Second Saturday School. Second Saturday is an initiative of the African American Council of Santa Cruz and the Second Saturday Network and was designed to promote identity development and achievement in African American youth. Topics in this edition include a report on the Project Vecinos grant of $5000 that was given by Dommunity Foundation of Santa Cruz to support the Second Saturday School activities including cooking lessons, outreach to schools in Zimbabwe, education and identity development for African American children. The edition also includes the column called Letters from Zimbabwe that highlights first hand experiences from people in Zimbabwe and an original essay called viola’s Mother. Nubra Floyd also hosts a Q and A column with local students and there is also the class reading syllabus for Saturday School posted.
