A Glance at history

Article highlights women who decided to go into business versus take the traditional path of wife and mother in the early 1900s. The first path that opened for women was as a teacher and the article describes two teachers, Miss Finkelday and Ms Scott who both graduated from high school and took college level courses to prepare for their job. Miss Handley graduated from Holy Cross school and wanted to go into hat design. She interned at a shop in San Francisco for a few years and then came back to Santa Cruz to open a highly successful hat shop.
