Looking Back...Hotel Ben Lomond

Author describes the intentionally set fire that burned down the main lodge of the historic Hotel Ben Lomond on March 5th, 1914. The cottages were saved and the grounds were not burned. The furniture and piano was waved by volunteers but the building was lost. The hotel had been bought in 1913 and the fire insurance changed shortly after the sale to $12,000 to $30,000. In May, the fire loss was set at $12,000. The caretaker who set the fire was not paid as promised so he admitted the crime tha implicated the owners to the police.
