Quake 1984
Santa Cruz County suffered a 6.2 earthquake followed the next day by high winds. Henry Cowell Park suffered some damage from the winds with trees and branches down. Safeway and Longs Drugs in Scotts Valley closed their doors briefly to clean up about $300 worth of goods that fell from shelves. Power was lost in Felton due to the high winds on the second day. More extensive damage occurred in
San Jose and Morgan Hill where homes were destroyed
