George Shippy is Old Resident

George M. Shippy, whose wife died at Stockton this week, is one of the old timers of this section having lived here and in Scotts Valley for 42 years.

Away back in 1889 he used to run a livery stable on the avenue and many of the older generation will remember his place and the times they used to take a livery rig with a good pair of horses and a light buggy for drives to Watsonville, San Jose and other points.

He is now 91 years of age. His place of business formerly was on the site where the Unique theatre now stands.

His daughter, Mrs. Earl Webber of Klamath Falls, Oregon, came down to take care of Mr. Shippy during the remaining days of his life. She was born in Scotts Valley.

Mr. Shippy is one of the real old subscribers of the Sentinel and has taken the paper for 42 years and still reads it daily without glasses.

He now lives at 122 north Branciforte Avenue.

Dies At Age of 91 Years

George M. Shippy of 122 North Branciaforte avenue passed away at the family residence yesterday. Mr. Shippy was born in New York state and was 91 years of age. The body is at the Chase mortuary and the funeral will be held at the chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Mr. Shippy was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of Wallace Reynolds Post G.A.R., with which he had been connected the years he has resided in this city.

He was for a number of years in the livery business and also followed farming in Scotts Valley. He was a high type of citizen and esteemed most highly.

Last Taps for Old Soldier

Impressive services were held yesterday for George Shippy at the chapel of Chase's Mortuary. The services were conducted by the Rev. J.C. Carpenter of the First Methodist church and beautiful flowers had been sent by friends.

The hymns "Through the Gates of Gold" and "Through Valley of Shadow," were sung by Mrs. Mary Croop and Mrs. Abra Budworth.

The pallbearers were members of Wallace Reynolds Post G.A.R.

Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery.
