Those same records noted that in January 1942, he was a resident of Santa Cruz County, single and was employed as a vegetable farm hand.

Davis was inducted into the army in San Francisco on April 14, 1942, and assigned the rank of private. No information has surfaced as to his training or unit assignment. The US War Department's casualty list indicated that Davis was a private first class at the time of his death and that his death was of a non-battle related nature. The date of death and the location of the remains of Private First Class Lawrence R. Davis have not been found.
