Frederick B. Aldrich (1944/05/05)

Fred Aldrich is a Santa Cruz Sentinel roll of honor addition for whom there is little available information.

Frederick Bert Aldrich, the husband of a Santa Cruz girl, was born in Ohio on April 8, 1922. No additional information regarding his family or early life is available. He joined the US Navy in 1940 and after basic training and gunnery school, rose to the rank of gunner's mate third class.

Details of his courtship and marriage to Edna Brimblecom, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brimblecom of Santa Cruz are not known. They married and while he was at sea, Edna remained with her parents at their home in Santa Cruz.

In April 1944, Edna Aldrich was notified that Fred had been hospitalized at the Long Beach Naval hospital with an undisclosed medical condition. She went to Long Beach where she found him confined to an oxygen tent in a quarantined area.

On May 5, 1944, Frederick B. Aldrich died. His body was sent to Steubenville, Ohio for burial.
