Valley "legend" comes from the old school

Pep is still working several ranches at the time of the writing, has done branding and roping and was a rodeo cowboy. He built a bridge on his property and has also been a road construction worker, firefighter, oilman, and clerk. He was born in 1912 on what is now UCSC, his parents both immigrants from Italy. His father got off the ship in San Francisco the day after the 1906 earthquake and went to work with his brother Joseph Locatelli in Santa Cruz driving a team. He also worked at a sawmill and then on Miller Ranch where Pep was born. His father had some hard times after opening a speak-easy during prohibition but Pep stayed int he community and is a well known figure to many.
