Billy Dool
The writer notes that four men can be credited for making Big Basin Park happen: Henry Middleton, Billy Dool, A.P Hill and Thomas Maddock. Billy Dool was born in Canada and settled in the Boulder Crrek area in the 1800s. His friend was Henry Middleton who he winds up talking out of cutting all the timber in Big Basin Gulch and selling the land to the state instead. A,P, Hill is credited with raising the issue publicly after being refused entry to Big Trees Park and he gathered supported for the project. Billy Dool had spent a brief time while Boulder Creek tried being incorporated as the major of the time. He had influence even before the Big Basin saga began but his real legacy was helping to preserve the natural beauty of the area through conservation.
