Valley forests lured early settlers

Article describes the early development of the area from sawmills along all of the creeks and early pioneers who built up the town with buildings like the Boulder Creek Mercantile, the Washingtonian, the Boulder Creek Hotel, liveries, saloons, and other businesses. The rivalry between the town of Boulder and Lorenzo is reviewed and they eventually merged together. Pioneer family names are listed and the change that occurred from rough and tumble lumbermen to families who needed schools and churches. The article also discusses changes in the lumber industry over time and the rise of conservation and tourism in the area.
