Article describes the history of the roads completion started in 1866 with a first survey which was very difficult due to the terrain. The road was completed in two years by contractor M. Bennet. The writers of the article are very complimentary of the finished road with excellent grading and plenty of room. Speeches were made and several civic leaders said that the state needs to commit to finishing the road over the summit to the Bay Area. Railroads are predicted to be in place over the same routes soon.
