Storm disasters should be no surprise

Sandy Lyndon, local historian, discusses the problem of repeated flooding and beach erosion in Santa Cruz. Several of our towns and Santa Cruz City is built on a flood plain which was well known by local inhabitants but the establishment occurred anyway. To compound the problem, the buildings of the early days were never meant to be year long permanent housing. Today, people are living in expensive homes during the winter in potential danger of natural disasters which have been a part of the area’s history for hundreds of years.
