Great Scott left name and home
Article details the history of Hiram Scott who made and lost several fortunes in mining adventures throughout the West. He arrived in California after jumping ship on a freighter that had arrived from the East coast. He built his hous near its current location after buying a large tract of land that was part of the St. Agustin Rancho. The house has been moved since about 300 yards to make way for Scotts Valley Drive and is listed on the Historical Houses Register. The Scotts Valley Historical Society is raising money to restore the house while maintaining its unique mid 1800s details.
