The Hiram Scott House

Description of the Hiram Scott House which was originally a stage coach stop on the way from San Jose to Santa Cruz on what is now Scotts Valley Drive. It is an early example of a house built with locally milled redwood and is a replica of the Hiram Scott families home in Maine. It was built in 1853 in a Greek Revival farmhouse mode. The glasswork used in the house was probably shipped by steam from the East Coast. The house was recently renovated with siding removed by the Scotts Valley Historical Society. Plans are underway to open the house for tours as well as highlight the recent discoveries of a 10,000 year old settlement on the property.
