Scotts Valley: from favorite stopover to city

History of Scotts Valley where r an area near the present day Scotts Valley Junior High was a favorite picnic spot for people coming over the hill in the early 1900s to decide what they wanted to do next (rdwoods vs. beach). It later was developed with a grocery store and tents for campers and called Camp Evers after the developer. A cluster of business developed along Scotts Valley Drive until the freeway was built and cars bypassed the area. The author also mentions Hiram Scotts history with his large land purchase, originally a part of a Mexican Land Grant named San Agustin. Scotts Valley went on to have an early flour mill, a tannery developed by Paul Sweet and several dairies. The later part of the article discusses the attempts by Santa Cruz to annex Scotts Valley and the Skypark Airport which prompted an incorporation vote which passed. Scotts Valley now is an incorporated City and a mixed community of residential and business.
