Harvey West: the man, the legend, the baseball field
Article about philanthropist Harvey West who gave a park that bears his name to Santa Cruz including a swimming pool, ball park and field lights. In other parts of the state, he sold Vickingsholm at Lake Tahoe for a deal to the State of Ca and built libraries, buildings, and other civic improvements to towns. He bought Christmas trees every year for the men at Folsom prison and he helped reduce speeding by buying police cars and parking them along Highway 17. A barbeque party is being held at Harvey West Park next week-end to honor the man who gave this park to the people ten years ago.
