Phillipshurst

Originally a shingle mill, the property was sold to Dr. Phillips who built his home on the site. It was a center of activity for the community and many social events were held there. it was later sold to Dr. Musgrove and his wife in 1923. While less involved in community life socially, the Musgrove hired architects to remodel the home into an English Tudor house and gardens. Ove 150 acres were cultivated into rose gardens, ponds, lilac gardens and lawns. The renamed the house to Riverwood. From 1936 to 1969 the property was used as a school for the disabled by Dr. Smith and named Blake-Hammond. AFter the school closed the property fell into disrepair and was unable to be purchased until 1977 by Pat Wilder and four others and the acreage sub-divided. The old home is being repaired and rebuilt to its former granduer
