Picture of Byron and Elmer Dakan who arrived in Santa Cruz in 1849. The picture was shared at a mini-reunion of the Dakan family at the home of Annd Margaret and Donald Dakan who moved to Santa Cruz from Los Angeles. They also noted that the grandsons of one of the men in the picture became prominent citizens of Santa Cruz and that the actual first pioneers of the family were two brothers who moved from England and settled in West Virginia before the Civil War.
