Letter from F.K. Matthias to Faye Ellis
Property known as the "Knowles Property" and named "The Falls" was bought in Dec 1st 1894 from the Ben Lomond Land and Lumber Company. Dr. Knowles was a physician and later a dentist in San Francisco. Over the years the property has been occupied by many in the family as a home and new houses have been built on the property. The interviewee moved onto the property in the 1940s and Mr. Knowles retired there until his death. The original house on the property once housed Harry Love ,"The Black Knight of Zayante". He captured Juan Murrieta and Manual Garcia known as "Three fingered Jack". This was when Harry Love was captain of the California Rangers. One story is that the widow Bennett was shot and killed near this house as part of a love triangle.
