A Brief History of the Pajaro Valley
Article details the growth of Watsonville and the Pajaro valley in the early days of cattle ranching to the beginnings of agriculture in the 1950s. First wheat, barley and potatoes were the groups which was followed by strawberry crops and apple orchards. Up to 15,000 acres were planted at one time. Watsonville was connected to Santa Cruz first by a cow trail that went through John Watson’s settle built in 1852 all the way to Monterey, Watson’s farm became Watsonville. The article notes the co-existence of farming and new development today as the Pajaro Valley looks to the future.
