Letter April 29, 1981 to Faye Ellis from Ellen Cox Magnuson

Interesting letter about working as a waitress at the Dickinson Hotel one summer and how much she made there. There were also visiting waitresses from other cities who could stay in the tent cabins on the property. The chefs were of Chinese origin and the head chef would prepare his own game as well as make the desserts. Waitresses would work during breakfast and then have a break in the afternoon and come back to serve dinner. She mentions that her father met C.F. Lewis in another city who was a former merchant in Santa Cruz and now had two shoe stores in San Francisco. Ms Magnuson’s father worked there and her mother and family stayed in Ben Lomond. her mother wrote stories for the Mountain Echo.
