Born in Nebraska in 1922, William R. Linford served in the United States Army Air Corps from 11 November 1942 to 10 October 1945. He was in the 8th Air Force, Division 1, 351st Bomb Group. He completed 35 missions over Germany as the navigator on a B17 Flying Fortress. He was awarded the Air Medal and reached the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
