Prize Film Story Being Enacted In Boulder Creek Locale

Colleen Moore is star and Malcolm MacGregor leading man, of the two groups of movie players who passed through Santa Cruz yesterday en route to Boulder Creek where they joined forces to begin this morning the filming of important "exteriors" for an elaborate new photoplay, "Broken Chains."

Director Allan J. Holubar, known far and wide for his ability and as a director of the highest rank, is much impressed with the available settings peculiar only to this locality and has expressed a desire to at some future date put on a great production in its entirety with Santa Cruz and Boulder Creek scenery utilized throughout. Holubar is most noted for his famous productions, "Heart of Humanity" and "Man, Woman, Marriage."

The aggregation now in Boulder Creek under Holubar is registered thirty strong at the New Alpine hotel there, where they will remain for four or five days. They have been for the past ten days at Huntington Lake and will return the first of next week to the Goldwyn studios in Culver City. Locations at "Poverty Flat" on the Big Basin road, and at a specially constructed dam on Boulder Creek itself, will have been utilized.

The supporting cast, one that figures prominently in the $10,000 prize photoplay, is made up of a list of sterling players. Ernest Torrence, unforgettable for his work as "heavy" in "Tol'able David," with Richard Barthelmess, and who was here only a few weeks ago with the V. L. Schertzinger company, together with Hal Craig, Wm. Orlamond, Al Calkins and James Marcus, are included in this list.

Holubar and his aide, Nat Salmon, were in Santa Cruz last evening in quest of feminine types, whom they offer $7.50 per day and board. Are you a type?"
