Japanese Survey
[Editorial]

To the Editor:

I have just noted the very recent C. C. survey concerning the ever-present Japanese problem in our midst. This report certainly demonstrates that our locality has a goodly majority of red-blooded Americans.

Of late we have been learning of an increasing number of "Jap lovers" - people meeting the trains to usher these homecomers back to the Promised Land, while many are throwing their doors all but off the hinges to see that these people have employment.

But alas! our citizens speak and in no uncertain terms and what a joy to hear the overwhelming majority so express themselves. A few days ago I met a veteran from the South Pacific who claimed to have had first-hand experience with several Jap war prisoners. He surely was amazed at the attitude of a Nip officer in his charge. This "smart guy" as the Yanks called him was so arrogant and cocky that he was hard to let live. Our "would-be world conqueror" narrated that he was a Stanford graduate and revealed that his country would strike again, just as soon as "your damn United States" softened up - which would not be long!

This American fighting man is firm in his belief that everything possible should be done to encourage all Japanese to return to their native land where they can - if they choose - greatly assist in the physical, moral and economical rebuilding of their broken empire. And now is the time for these unpredictable and unassimilating people to show their fine democratic tendencies and love of the country from which they sprang - by disposing of what interests they may have here and take an early boat to Japan.

We have managed exceedingly well since Pearl Harbor to live our daily lives without this questionable race. It should be uppermost in our hearts and minds to discourage every phase of further association with them before too many servicemen return and express themselves far more frankly than we at home have done to date.
