S.C. Lad Of Jap Descent Is Good Army Corporal
One of Santa Cruz' American citizens of Japanese parentage is a good soldier in the United States army.
Fred Ishizaki, who went in the draft before Pearl Harbor, has just been promoted to the rank of corporal at Camp Grant, Ill.
He was recommended for the promotion by Brigadier General John W. Willis, commander at Camp Grant, because of outstanding ability as a solder.
Fred is a member of the Detached Medical Department, 1608th Service Unit.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shigeko Ishizaki, who formerly lived near the end of Mission street, went with other Japanese aliens from this area to Salinas and are now in the internment camp at Poston, Arizona.
