Santa Cruz police department must make a complete report of the doings of every enemy alien in this city once a week to the federal bureau of investigation and twice a month to an unnamed organization.

This was announced yesterday by Chief of Police Al Huntsman, who told of increased restrictions on the issuance of travel permits to enemy aliens.

Huntsman and Inspector Elmer Geyer of the police department attended a school in San Francisco last week. Discussed was the issuance of travel permits and curfew permits to enemy aliens. The new division of the authorities for the complete regular reports on the activities of enemy aliens was made.

"It will make for a great deal of work by the police department," Huntsman said.

"Shouldn't that be handled by the office of civilian defense?" Mayor Edwin L. Rich asked.

"The police department will take care of it for the present" Huntsman answered.

Huntsman said that his department, in co-operation with the FBI, is clamping down on violators of the enemy alien curfew laws. Several curfew law violators have been arrested in the city within the past two weeks.

The complete reports on the aliens will entail much more detailed work which Huntsman told city council members he believed his department would be able to handle without any additional help at present."
