Enemy Aliens: Specifically, Here's What You'll Give Up

A complete list of articles which enemy aliens must surrender to police or sheriff's authorities was revealed Monday following receipt of a communication Sunday night from Frank J. Hennessy, U.S. attorney for the northern district of California.

The list includes firearms; weapons or implements of war; ammunition; bombs; explosives or materials used in manufacture of explosives; short-wave radio receiving sets; transmitting sets; signal devices; codes or ciphers; cameras; and papers, documents or books in which there may be invisible writing, photograph, sketch, picture, drawing, map or graphical representation of any military or naval installations or equipment or of any arms, ammunitions, implements of war, device or thing used or intended to be used in combat equipment of the land or naval forces of the United States, or of any military or naval post, camp or station.

Hennessy cautioned officers to make clear that the articles are not being confiscated, but held until such time as they can be returned. Federal authorities, he said, are making plans to take over the surrendered goods.
