J.M. Woodward Dies at Home
John W. Woodward, an octogenarian, and one of the best known Beach hill residents, died yesterday.
With his wife, sister of Mr. and Mrs. Beecher, he came to California twenty years ago from Preston Iowa, and he made many friends here during that time. He came from the middle west, but his birthplace was New York, 81 years ago.
Mr. Woodward was on the street the third of this month, and the following Sunday was on the East Side to take dinner with friends. Not feeling well, he went home early, and since that time had been ill with influenza. Pneumonia developed and the end came about 6 o'clock yesterday morning.
He is survived by his wife, his sister Mrs. [illegible], residing in Michigan. He was an old soldier, and a member of the G.A.R. in the East.
The funeral will be held Saturday from the Chase undertaking parlors.
