Passing of Old Soldier
George Streng died at the County Hospital Wednesday morning. He was taken there Sunday after receiving a stroke of paralysis at his home at Seabright. Mr. Streng was a veteran soldier 76 years old. He served in the 16th Illinois Inf.., during the Civil War. He never was married, and after his mother's death, some fifteen years ago, lived alone. He was born in Alsace, France, and came to this country in the early fifties, settled in Illinois. After his mother's death he came to this State and lived at Los Gatos until he came here, about eight years ago. He was somewhat peculiar, preferring to live alone rather than with others. Strictly temperate in all things and deeply religious; quiet, inoffensive and gentle in his every day life. He was a member of Wallace-Reynolds Post, G.A.R., which society will render its ritualistic service at the Pacific Undertaking rooms this Thursday at 2 o'clock P.M., after which the remains will be buried in SCruz/OMP Cemetery.
All veterans are invited to be at the service at the parlors on Walnut Av.
