Civil War Veteran Dies After Illness

Frederick C. Streblow, 86 years old, a native of Tolz, Germany, veteran of the 105th Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War and who marched with General Sherman to the sea, passed away in this city yesterday afternoon after a lingering illness.

By occupation Mr. Streblow as a farmer in which work he engaged shortly after coming to the United States from his birthplace at the age of 17 years. He married Miss Harriet Lyon of Cass, Illinois, coming with her and his family to Santa Cruz 20 years ago. The family has lived at 169 Broadway ever since that time.

Mr. Streblow is survived by his wife, Harriet E. Streblow, and four daughters: Mrs. Carrie Strong, Mrs. Rupert Lease and Mrs. Albert Firestein, all of Santa Cruz, and Mrs. Blanche Mortensen of Milledgeville, Illinois. The youngest daughter, Mrs. Cora Weirman, passed away at Yokohama a year ago.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the parlors of C.C. Chase.

Streblow Estate is Left to Widow Petition is Filed

The petition for the probate of the will of the late Frederick C. Streblow, field this morning in the superior court of Executor Rupert Lease and A.M. Firestein will be heard on November 3rd. The estate which is valued at $12,000 to $15,000 consists mainly of federal and municipal bonds valued at $5,000 and two pieces of improved Santa Cruz real estate at 169 Broadway and 165 Broadway, valued at $7,000.

By the terms of the will of the decedent, which was executed on January 10th of this year, the entire estate is left to the widow, Mrs. Harriett E. Streblow and contains the stipulation that nothing is left to the surviving daughters for the reason that full confidence is reposed in the widow that she will properly provide for them. The will nominates Messrs. Lease and Firestein as executors and Stanford G. Smith as attorney for them in settling the estate.

The surviving children are Mrs. Carrie Strong, Mrs. Blanche May Mortensen, Mrs. Rosamond Firestein, Mrs. Ethel S. Lease, and a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth whose mother was a victim of the Japanese earthquake.
