Watsonville Evening Pajaronian (July 12, 1918)C.M. Stone, a former local businessman and veteran of the Civil war, was laid away with military honors at the Soldiers' Home at Sawtelle, near Los Angeles, Wednesday, according to word received yesterday by W.H. Kennedy, with whom the old man visited last summer.
Enclosed in the letter was one of the shells used in firing a last salute over Mr. Stone's grave. It will be kept by the Kennedy family as a momento of their friendship for the deceased.
Mr. Stone, while in Watsonville owned "The Racket" store, the predecessor of the present Watsonville News Company. He was known and liked by practically everyone living in the valley at that time and the news of his death will be received with many regrets.
He left Watsonville about fifteen years ago and had been living with relatives in Hanford until about seven months ago, when the wish of his old age was fulfilled and he went to the Veterans' Home. He passed away after a short illness Monday.
