S.S. Staples Passes Away

Selden S. Staples, until the last two years a resident of this city, and an old civil war veteran, is dead in Oakland where he had been living for the past year. The deceased was a native of Roxburg, Vt., aged 72 years. While living in this city his home was on Riverside Ave. He was a member of Wallace Reynolds Post, G.A.R. and of the local Congregational Church. At one time he had a ranch in Happy Valley. Mr. Staples was a good man, upright and honest, kindhearted.

Beloved husband of Ellen Louisa Staples, and father of Mrs. H.W. Crocker, Mrs. C.P. Forde and Euclid Staples.

Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services, Thursday, June 26, at 2:00 o'clock, under the auspices of Wallace Reynolds post, G.A.R. in this city.

Last Rites For Old Soldier

Thursday afternoon from the Pacific Coast Undertaking Parlors was held the funeral of the late Selden S. Staples, an old veteran of the Civil war. The funeral was largely attended by the members of the Grand Army under whose auspices the service was conducted. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. Leslie Briggs of the Congregational Church. The pall bearers were Philip Hynes, Frank Hills, Mr. Gould, Mr. Mills, M. Shippy and H.V. Monnett. Interment was at the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
