DIED: SMITH - In this city Oct. 1 Albert C. Smith, a native of Iowa aged 76 years, 8 Mo, 19 days.

Old Soldier Passes Away

Albert C. Smith, an old Civil war veteran, a native of Iowa died last night at his home at 79 Marnell Av., his home for the past five years. Death was not unexpected as he suffered from heart trouble for the last few days. He leaves a wife, a daughter Mrs. M.A. Spear, and a son C.F. Smith of San Jose.

Mr. Smith was a guard in Washington at the time President Lincoln was assassinated and aided in the capture of John Wilkes Booth.

The funeral of the deceased will be held from the funeral parlors of C.C. Chase, 38 Walnut Av. Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
