Birthday for an Old Soldier

Jonathan Meyer, an old soldier who has been ill and in bed for nine weeks, celebrated his birthday on Friday afternoon, when his comrades gathered at his home at 17 Pennsylvania Ave., and assisted him in celebrating and making the occasion a most happy one. The house was decorated appropriately in red, white and blue, the patriotic colors such as this old veteran would desire. The birthday cake, a beautiful one was sent by Mrs. Lawrence of the Woman's Relief Corp.

DIED: MEYER, In Santa Cruz march 5, Jonathan B Meyer, aged 81 years 10 months and 15 days, native of Pennsylvania.

Passing of an Old Soldier

Mr. Meyers, an old soldier and veteran of the Civil War, who is especially well known on the East Side, where he had many friends, died last night at his home at 79 Pennsylvania avenue where he resided with his wife.

Mr. Meyer was born in Pennsylvania and was 81 years of age.

The body is at the Chase Undertaking parlors.

Old Soldiers Attend Service

Funeral services were held yesterday at Chase's undertaking parlors over Jonathan B. Meyer, a veteran of the Civil war.

The members of Wallace Reynolds post G.A.R. attended in a body and the church service was conducted by Rev. W.H.D. Hornaday with hymns by members of the East Side Methodist church choir. The burial as at SCruz/OMP cemetery.
