Last Rites For Old Soldier

The funeral of the late R.W. Marshall of Twin Lakes was held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the undertaking parlors of C.C. Chase on Walnut St. The funeral services were in charge of Wallace-Reynolds Post No. 32, G.A.R., Mr. Marshall being a member of the post. The body was shipped to San Francisco to be cremated.

The deceased was seventy three years of age, having been born in Will county, Illinois June 1, 1842. He served in the 100th Illinois volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out of Company A., Twentieth Illinois Infantry, in 1865, and at the time held the rank of first lieutenant [acting as Captain of the company]. He was married in October 1871 (to Miss Mary E. Francis of LaPorte, Indiana) and moved from Joliet, Ill, to Rensselaer Ind. in 1887, where he took up the practice of law.

Twice he was state prosecuting attorney, and held other responsible positions at various times. (He was prominent in Masonic circles.) The family has lived in Twin Lakes since 1906. Mrs. Marshall passed away in 1911.

His friends always called him Captain Marshall, and he was respected by all. ("Captain" Marshall has been in failing health for the past eighteen months and since the first of the year some one of his daughters has been in constant attendance.) He is survived by six children; Mrs. A.L. Marshall of Olene, Ore. Mrs. J.W. Wigmore, Orland Cal; Mrs. Frederick Browne, North Yakima, Wash; Mrs. DL. Goodlove, Winnipeg, Canada; Miss Edith Marshall of North Yakima Wash, and Miss Florence Marshall of Twin Lakes.
