J.P. Hysung Takes Tumble

Jacob P. Hysung, the father of Mrs. W.M. Aydelotte, created a little bit of excitement at Brookdale when he turned up missing. At Noon a search began for him, but long in the afternoon he came hobbling home for he is stopping with his daughter. While out for a stroll on one of the side hill trails he lost his footing and slid down an embankment of 15 feet. It was with difficulty that he extracted himself, but escaped without the breaking of any bones. A few bruises makes him rather sore and stiff.

Santa Cruz Evening News (July 19, 1913?)

Jacob P. Hysung
He Passes Away at the Soldiers' Home at Yountville

News was received Friday from the Soldiers' Home at Yountville, that Jacob P. Hysung, a veteran of the Civil War, who had been at that institution for the past two months had breathed his last.

The deceased came to Santa Cruz with his family nine years ago from Indianapolis, Indiana, and had resided here continuously during that period. For the past two years the deceased had been in failing health, and two months ago he concluded to go to the soldiers' home.

A wife, a son, Forrest F. Hysung, and daughter, Mrs. Wm. M. Aydelotte and niece, Mrs. J.D. Ambrose, remain to mourn his loss.

For years the deceased was a member of Wallace Reynolds Post. G.A.R. It is probable the remains will be interred where he died.
