Santa Cruz Sentinel (January 10, 1922)

DIED: FLECKNER- At Soquel Jan 8, William Fleckner, aged 82 years, 9 months and 17 days, native of Germany.

Funeral services will be held at the parlors of Wessendorf and Son tomorrow, (Wednesday) at two o'clock P.M. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend. Remains will be shipped Thursday morning for cremation.

Octogenarian Dies at Soquel

William Fleckner, an octogenarian died on Sunday at Soquel, the second of the old time residents of the neighboring community to die within a week.

The Fleckners, for many years a large family, have made their home at Soquel, it being one of the best-known families of that section.

Mr. Fleckner was born 82 years ago and came to the United States when young and served in the Civil War, being under General Sherman for three years and three months.

He was by occupation a nurseryman and followed it for many years.

He was the father of a large family of children and he was preceded in death by his wife.

He leaves Mrs. Winifred Canham and six sons, O.P., W.O., L.M., G.A., and John A, and L.G.

The body is at Wessendorf & Sons undertaking parlors.

Funeral of Wm. Fleckner

The funeral services over the late William Fleckner were held yesterday at Wessendorf and Son's undertaking parlors and were conducted by Mr. Hocum, who had charge according the rites of the spiritualist people.

Many were present, especially from Soquel, and the casket was covered with flowers. Appropriate hymns were sung.

His six sons were present at the funeral, the first time they had been together for many years. They were Grover of San Francisco, John of Red Bluff, George of San Jose, Walter of Willits, Luther of San Francisco and Oliver of Cloverdale.

The body will be shipped to San Francisco for cremation and the ashes will be buried at the side of the wife.

Estate Left by Wm. Fleckner

O.P. Fleckner has, through Attorney W.T. Jeter, petitioned for letters of administration in the estate of William Fleckner, deceased, who died on January 8 at Soquel.

The estate consists of household furniture, $50; money in residence, $366; money in Santa Cruz Bank of Savings and Loan, $1,558.45; total estate about $2,000.
