Returned- We had the pleasure of meeting Domingo Dodero in town yesterday. He enlisted in Capt. Brown's company in 1861. He served three years as Sergeant in the 2d Cal. Cavalry, and commanded the esteem and friendship of his comrades by his gentlemanly and soldierly conduct. The Doderos' are among the earliest of our Spanish families, and owner of the "Tres Ojos Rancho." This ranch is one of the loveliest locations in Santa Cruz. We understand Domingo is here to attend to his interest in the ranch, an order for distribution having been made.

Domingo Dodero, a native of Santa Cruz, but for many years engaged in mining in Nevada, called on us. He can see a great contrast in Santa Cruz, comparing it with the Santa Cruz he left in 1861 to engage in the cruel war under Captain Brown.

Domingo Dodero, back from the Soldiers Home, Los Angeles County where he received no physical benefits, expects later to try the dry climate of San Diego. He is an old soldier and suffering from some of the ills that came to some of the Veterans of the rebellion forty years after the assignation of President Lincoln.

Death of Domingo Dodero
An Old Resident of Santa Cruz Passes Away

Domingo Dodero, who was a native of Santa Cruz, died on Saturday evening [Jan 12, 1907] at the residence of his sister, Mrs. W.S. Ward, on Walnut avenue extension.

He was born in this city sixty-seven years ago, being a member of one of the oldest and most highly respected families that resided here before American occupation.

He was a miner by occupation and for many years was in the mines at Virginia City, Nev. but of late has resided near San Diego.

He was a member of the G.A.R. being an old soldier. he enlisted here at the time of the war, being a member of Capt. Brown's company. [Phil Reader's records indicate that he was a Quartermaster Sgt.] He was in a number of engagements against the Indians. He leaves in Santa Cruz a brother (Louis Dodero) and four sisters (Mrs. Louisa Ward, Mrs. Mary Patten, Mrs. Refugia Buelna, and Mrs. J. Rodriguez).

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from Holy Cross Church where a high requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul.

The funeral of the late Domingo Dodero was held this morning from Holy Cross Church where a high requiem mass was celebrated. Members of the G.A.R. were pallbearers. Interment was at the Catholic cemetery.
