DIED: CURLEY, At the Soldiers Home near Los Angeles, John J. Curley aged 77 years, 10 mo, 15 days. A veteran of the Civil War, Co. G 3rd Mo. Cav. Funeral at C.C. Chase undertaking parlor Dec 7 at 2 o'clock. Interment SCruz/OMP.

Local Veteran Passes Away
John J. Curley was a Civil War Veteran

John J. Curley, whose home was on North Branciforte, passed away at the Soldiers' Home near Los Angeles Thursday evening. He was taken there three weeks ago by Col. Lucas and H.A. Wagner at his request and with the belief he would recover from the ravages of cancer in the face.

He was in a local sanitarium for four or five weeks before going to the home.

The day he was taken to the sanitarium his good old wife was stricken with paralysis and never recovered consciousness, but passed away about two weeks later.

John J. Curley was a soldier in the 3d Missouri cavalry during the Civil War. He served three faithful years and saw much hard service. He was an honest, upright man, a good citizen, as well as a good soldier.

He was a member of Wallace-Reynolds Post, G.A.R., who at his request will bury him in SCruz/OMP Cemetery with the full service of the order.

Funeral will be on Monday, the 7th at 2 o'clock, at Chase's parlors.

Concerning John J. Curley, whose death notice appeared in Saturday's paper, C.J. Todd writes us the following from the Soldiers Home:

Comrade Curly was admitted to the hospital November 23, 1914, being brought here by Col. W.V. Lucas and Captain John H Wagner from his late home in Santa Cruz, where he had been under treatment in a private sanitarium. When admitted to the hospital like so many others who were brought here he was in a dying condition. Comrade Curley rested easy making no complaint, but it was apparent to all that his days were few, and no possible hope of recovery was entertained from the first. By occupation he was a railroad engineer, a native of Louisiana and by religion a Protestant. The body will be removed and shipped back to Santa Cruz for burial beside his wife who recently died there.

Passed Away at Soldiers Home

John J. Curley, a veteran of the Civil War, passed away Thursday evening at the Soldiers Home at Sawtelle where he was taken three weeks ago by Col. Lucas and H.A. Wagner at his request, and with the belief that he would recover from the ravages of cancer of the face. He was a soldier in the third Missouri Cavalry during the Civil War and was a member of Wallace Reynolds post GAR who at his request will bury him in SCruz/OMP with the full service of the order.
