Jeremiah S. Chapman

DIED: Santa Rosa July 28th J.S. Chapman age about 61 years.

Last evening a telegram was received announcing the death of J.S. Chapman at Santa Rosa. For several months past he had been in poor health, and was visiting in Santa Rosa in the hope of improving his condition. He has been in the jewelry business here for many years and was an upright, conscientious citizen. He formerly resided in El Dorado County and came to this State in early days. He leaves a wife and five children. He was a member of Masonic societies, McCook Post G.A.R., and the American Legion of Honor. Deceased was aged about 61 years. Chap had a host of friends, and in this time of trouble Mrs. Chapman and family have their warmest sympathies.

Watsonville Pajaronian (August 5, 1886)

The funeral services of J.S. Chapman were held in the Rink Friday morning. The Rev's G.A. Pierce and F.L. Nash officiating and Pajaro Lodge F&AM having charge of the services. The attendance of citizens was large, thereby showing the communities respect for one who was an upright good citizen, and a true father. The remains were interred in Odd Fellows cemetery.
