Old Soldier Passes Away
J.S. Cain is Buried at Oakdale
J.S. Cain, aged 77, a former resident of this city and an old soldier who was a member of Wallace Reynolds corps, G.A.R., died last Tuesday at Oakdale, and the funeral was held at that place from the Methodist Church Thursday afternoon.
In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Cain came to Oakdale from Iowa and with the exception of four years, they have resided in the vicinity of Oakdale. In 1885 Mr. Cain and his family returned to Iowa, where they remained until 1889 when they returned to Oakdale.
Seven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Cain celebrated their Golden wedding at the home of their daughter, Mrs. David Herstine, which was then in Santa Cruz.
Deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cain, two daughters, Mrs. David Herstein of Oakdale, and Mrs. Flora Meyer, of Golden Arrow, Nev., and two sons, Samuel Cain of Richmond and Milo Cain of near Tonopah, Nevada.
