The Buckhart Funeral To Be Held Tomorrow At Burland's Chapel

Arrangements have been completed to hold the funeral services over the remains of the late John Buckhart at Burland's Chapel at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, to be followed by interment in the Odd Fellows' cemetery. The passing of Mr. Buckhart took place at 6:30 o'clock last evening after a brief illness, and while surround by the members of his family.

The deceased was a native of Germany, born October 30th 1837. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Amanda Buckhart, five sons, William and Henry Buckhart, of Santa Cruz, Charles Buckhart, of Paso Robles, James Buckhart, of Alameda, Richard L. Buckhart of Watsonville; one daughter, Mrs. Lulu Jensen of Watsonville; three grandchildren, Thelma Buckhart of Alameda, Norman Buckhart of Santa Cruz, and George B. Jensen of Watsonville.

He was a devout Lutheran in which faith he was baptized when quite young. When nine years of age, Mr. Buckhart came to America with his parents, settling in Pennsylvania. He married in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and came to the Pajaro valley with his family in 1870, residing here continuously ever since.

Mr. Buckhart followed the miller's vocation for many years but took up stationary engineering in Watsonville. He belonged to the United States regular army for six years, taking part in the Civil War and also many Indian engagements.

His health has been gradually failing for some time, due to complications arising from his advanced age. He was a quiet, unassuming gentlemanly citizen, and a man highly respected in this community. His death comes not unexpectedly and marks the passing of another of the hardy pioneers who have blazed the way for the present civilization.
