Old Soldier Dies

William Bowley, an old Civil War veteran who arrived here about a month ago with his son from the East and who had been living on the Richardson ranch on the Beach road, died Saturday afternoon at the county hospital shortly after he had arrived there from this city for treatment. His son survives him. The two had been here for one month and on Friday their funds ran out, the son not being able to find any work in this section. Mr. Bowley was ailing and it was thought best to send him to the county hospital at Santa Cruz. Constable W.B. Mann [was in charge of the case] and Saturday night he learned that upon his arrival at the hospital Bowley had taken a bath and had partaken of a light meal and was smoking a pipe when he fell over dead in his chair. He was buried today at Santa Cruz by the G.A.R. post of that city.
