Hang gliding at Scott Creek beach has been temporarily halted after damage to dunes and as an environmental study is done. The site is popular for hang gliders since it is the only suitable training location between San Francisco and Monterey. Yet vegetation, wildlife, and dune stability has been impacted by heavy foot traffic and various vehicles. The snowy plover is a threatened species that roosts at Scott Creek and that needs protection. The county is proposing a project that will improve access and provide protections for the sensitive habitat.
