Several residents faced harrowing circumstances as recent storms, rains, and mudslides caused widespread damage in the Eureka Canyon area. Margaret Keith and Darrel Jones were severely injured by trees crashing onto their homes. California Department of Forestry Firefighters faced impassable road sections due to washed out bridges, and were ultimately successful in the rescue after clearing a path through Nisene Marks State Park. Both Keith and Jones are reported in stable condition. There are several harrowing stories of escaping the floods in the mountains. A couple arrived at Grace Baptist Church on Hames Road at a Red Cross aid station, with their two young children, after narrowly escaping as their house was washed away. Resident Steve Albert, who evacuated from Lower Highland Road, mentioned that four homes were washed away. A home also burned in Corralitos, as fire crews had no way to access the building over Eureka Canyon Road. The storm as described by Upper Highland Road resident and evacuee Randy Olson, was as though, "the mountain was washing away"..." and it was coming down on top of us."
