Heavy rains that have battered the Santa Cruz area in the last week are predicted to abate. Emergency services are still monitoring flood levels closely. The Pajaro River was a few feet from the top of the levees, and equipment was put in place to clear logs from the Bargetto Bridge on Soquel Creek. Crews are also clearing mudslides, two of which closed southbound Highway 17. Only the Boulder Brook area is still under forced evacuation, after a mudslide. Amy Ratnofsky is believed to be the only fatality after the slide struck her home. Four persons were also injured in the Eureka Canyon Area. The San Lorenzo Water District reports $3 million in damage to its reservoir above Boulder Brook, though there is no concern about its stability. The 1982 storms and permanent closure of the Love Creek area after a massive slide are referenced as a comparison, though Boulder Brook is unlikely to be closed. Official county figures show four homes destroyed and 55 damaged from this recent storm, and power, still off for 1,546 customers, is being restored.
