Submarine F-2 with the U.S. Cruiser Alert (?)
The submarine F-2 with the U.S. Cruiser Alert (?) to the left. The submarines F-1 and F-2 along with the Alert lay at anchor near Port Watsonville. (Port Watsonville existed from 1911-1917 in the area that is now Sunset State Beach.) In the early morning of October 11, 1912, rough seas caused the F-1 to snap her anchor cable and she ran aground. After eight days, she was finally released and towed to Mare Island Shipyard for repairs.
